Involuntary relocation is a disruptive and traumatic process that intensifies the challenges and risks faced by vulnerable families. This guide outlines some of the major issues and challenges to be faced when low-income families and children are displaced involuntarily by redevelopment projects and suggests some alternative standards and practices. This Road Map, which will be updated periodically, draws on the experience of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and others who seek to promote innovative and more beneficial relocation practices that lead to better choices and outcomes for residents.

This fact sheets provides information as to whether children’s outcomes are better if they live in environments that are supportive in terms of family, peers, and community. Results indicate that children from supportive neighborhoods are more likely to have stronger connections compared to their counterparts from less supportive neighborhoods.

This brochure describes the first publication in a Casey Foundation series that explores a new approach to connecting the dots between people living in low income neighborhoods and jobs that provide health benefits and career advancement. The "neighborhood pipeline" joins residents, schools, community organizations, employers, workforce agencies, and elected officials to connect families to jobs. Stories from Seattle/White Center, San Antonio, and Louisville show how pipelines work.
