This document highlights presentations and lessons learned from Casey's "conference within a conference" at the 2006 Hispanic Healthy Marriage Conference. Participants included 15 guests from
Making Connections sites representing the fields of faith, community, nonprofits, and other practitioners in the areas of child welfare, domestic violence, and responsible fatherhood. Participants transcended barriers in dialogue by constructively confronting issues of family violence and bureaucratic and cultural differences so that systemic change can take place.

In this monograph, the Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) puts forth a “Marriage Plus” perspective in which two goals should be paramount in designing public benefits programs. First, the state should seek to develop rules that do not discourage marriage. Second, these rules should not disadvantage children who live in single-parent families.
