The Casey Foundation believes that all children need strong families and supportive communities to reach their full potential. Evidence2Success aims to demonstrate that public systems, schools and communities working in partnership to guide public investment toward proven programs and services will have a significant impact on children’s healthy growth and development.

Evidence2Success focuses on proven programs that have been shown through research and practical experience to improve young people’s well-being in five critical areas:

  • Behavior: Children who exhibit good conduct, who avoid drugs and alcohol and who do not participate in risky sexual behavior
  • Education: Children who are prepared for school, graduate from high school and enter adulthood prepared to lead a productive life
  • Emotional well-being: Children who are happy and able to focus, and who have strong self-esteem and self-control
  • Physical health: Children who are born healthy, and remain active, physically fit and free from chronic illness
  • Positive relationships: Children who are bonded to parents, friends and adult role models who help them maintain healthy beliefs and high standards.

In the demonstration phase, Evidence2Success is supporting one city’s efforts to improve young people’s well-being within a few communities and public systems. To support the city’s work, Evidence2Success includes:

  • child and youth well-being surveys that identify children’s strengths and needs, and the underlying factors influencing their development;
  • Blueprints for Healthy Youth Development, a database of cost-effective proven programs that influence specific areas of youth well-being;
  • a financing tool kit that can be used to map current investments and identify strategies for generating or securing sustainable sources of funding; and
  • coaching and technical assistance to support strategy development and help partners build their capacity to adapt to and sustain new ways of working.

Evidence2Success is based on more than 30 years of research and statistics about the underlying causes that prevent problems and protect children from risks. Decades of work in public health show that engaging whole communities in understanding and addressing health concerns and their underlying causes can promote changes in behavior that lead to better health.
