Mike Pomi to Direct Nevada Children’s Organization

After 30 years in government, Mike Pomi retired as Washoe County’s director of juvenile probation services to become the executive director of the Children’s Cabinet, a non-profit youth and family service provider.

“Mr. Pomi has overseen the department … with great zeal and dedication for the past three and one-half years. He will be greatly missed,” said Washoe County District Court Judge Frances Doherty.

Pomi will continue in his role as Nevada’s JDAI state coordinator.

John Rhoads, the JDAI team leader in Nevada, said, "We look forward to working with Mike, as his new responsibilities include developing high-quality community services as alternatives to detention."

The Nevada native received his bachelor’s and master’s of social work from the University of Nevada at Reno. He served as president of the Nevada Association of Juvenile Justice Administrators and as a model court consultant to the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. He was also a member of the Casey Foundation’s JDAI Applied Leadership Network.

Carey Stewart was named interim director of Washoe County juvenile probation services.
