San Francisco Awarded Federal Grant

San Francisco, California, will receive a $600,000 Second Chance Act Youth Offender Reentry Initiative Grant awarded by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

San Francisco will establish a juvenile court reentry team – a partnership between the Superior Court, juvenile probation, public defender, and the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice – to provide coordinated aftercare services for youth returning from out of home placement.

After six months in placement, the team will meet with the family to develop a reentry plan. A “reentry court” will hear the recommendations and make a final determination. The aftercare plan will include wrap-around services for the youth and family before reunification, and continued clinical support once the youth has returned home.
