Core Strategies

Casey helps find and support local leaders to strengthen organizations and systems that work to address the needs of vulnerable children and families. We do this through a variety of strategies and programs:

  • Fellowship Class and Alumni Network - The Casey Children and Family Fellowship is an 18-month, intensive program for accomplished professionals to strengthen their vision, values, skills and networks in leading major state, local and community initiatives on behalf of children and families. A complement to our existing programs and funding strategies, the Fellowship represents an investment in the future of the human services field. The Fellowship Alumni Network sponsors ongoing leadership development activities and networking events so Fellowship graduates can raise a collective voice on important issues affecting children and families.
  • Resident Leadership - A central belief of the Casey Foundation is that long-term, positive change for children and families living in tough neighborhoods will only happen with active leadership and sustained participation from parents and residents. Our goal is to strengthen community-based leadership and develop the local capacity to amplify the role and voice of residents in Making Connections and Civic sites. To this end, our resident leadership projects work toward three results:
    • Residents play a critical role in agenda setting and decision-making for their neighborhoods and in the larger community on issues of services, policies, and funding to achieve and sustain better results for families and children.
    • Local capacity is in place in Making Connections sites and the Atlanta Civic site to develop, promote, and sustain a growing constituency of resident leaders and families who are informed and engaged in strategies to achieve better results for their families, children, and neighborhoods.
    • Residents earn academic credentials for their leadership training that advance their careers and earnings.
  • Results Leadership - Through our Leadership in Action program, community, nonprofit, and government agency managers are shown how to jointly focus on results and accelerate improvements for families creating change using facts and statistics. Using an intense, collaborative model, a group's collective vision for a targeted improvement is adopted, tailored and supported for immediate results and long-term change. Improving school readiness is one example of a targeted improvement.
  • Capacity Building - Our vision is a human services field comprised of effective, stable nonprofit organizations delivering quality services to accelerate results for children and families. These organizations will have the capacity and resilience both to survive critical challenges, such as leadership transitions and tough economic times, as well as to thrive in more supportive funding and policy environments. To achieve this, the Foundation has invested in a three distinct, yet related strategies. These are 1) promoting the practice of and investment in executive transition management services and providing access to these service and supports to our grantee organizations; 2) developing the next generation of leaders for the nonprofit sector; and 3) promoting the financial sustainability of nonprofits.
