The Annie E. Casey Foundation Calls for Grant Proposals to Help Baltimore Families and Children in 2010
Local Direct Service Organizations Urged to Apply for Baltimore Direct Services Grants Program

Baltimore, Md., May 7, 2010 – The Annie E. Casey Foundation seeks grant proposals from local direct service organizations that will be sponsoring summer activities and programs for disadvantaged Baltimore City youth. The Casey Foundation’s Baltimore Direct Services Grants program began in 1995 and since then has contributed over $10 million in support of a wide range of innovative ideas and practices conducted by groups that represent many areas of the city.

Nonprofit community organizations with a 501 (c) (3) status serving Baltimore City youth are eligible to apply; other eligibility criteria can be found on the Baltimore Direct Services Grant Program Fact Sheet: http://bit.ly/bi0TM4. The Baltimore Direct Services Grants program will grant up to $20,000 to support new or ongoing summer youth activities and programs, with funding beginning on July 1, 2010. Grants will support programs that include, but are not limited to, academic enhancement, cultural enrichment, and/or recreation activities.

“Especially in this tight economic climate, the Annie E. Casey Foundation is proud to continue supporting organizations working to make a real difference in the lives of kids and families in our own community of Baltimore City,” said Tony Cipollone, vice president of Civic Sites and Initiatives for the Casey Foundation.

Previous grant recipients sponsoring youth programs include the Oliver Community Association, for a youth business center that helped young people develop communications, marketing, and other skills needed to run a business; Junior Achievement of Central Maryland, Inc., to provide economic and financial literacy education to Baltimore City fifth graders attending Title One Schools; and Art on Purpose Incorporated, to support an ongoing art workshop and youth leadership program at the Baltimore Freedom Academy.

The deadline for applications is May 21. Submission guidelines are available at www.aecf.org/bdsg.aspx. For additional information about the Baltimore Direct Services Program, please contact Nonet Sykes at (410) 223-2915 or nsykes@aecf.org.
