Baltimore Direct Services Grant Program

Please note that the deadline for organizations to notify us of their intent to apply for funding is April 14, 2008.

The Casey Foundation's Baltimore Direct Services Grants Program annually funds a wide range of not-for-profit community-based or community-serving organizations that work directly with disadvantaged children, youth, and families, primarily in Baltimore City.

Background. Since the program began in 1995, between 20 to 30 new awards ranging from $2,000 to $20,000 have been made each year. Successful applicants are funded for one year, and are then eligible for a second year of support equal to 50 percent of the first-year award. Grants may be used to start or enhance direct services or programs such as health care, education, job training, counseling, violence prevention, recreation, cultural arts, child care, after-school/summer programs, community/economic development, education, employment assistance/job training, family support, HIV/AID (treatment, prevention, education), mentoring, recreation, school-based initiatives, substance abuse prevention, and youth development for disadvantaged children, youth, and families.

New Process. Organizations intending to apply for the Foundation's 2009 Baltimore Direct Services Grants Program MUST notify us of their intent by April 14, 2008. Please print out the 2009 Announcement when available, fill out both pages and fax it to 410-659-0755. Interested applicants should register early for the May 2nd Bidders’ Conference at 503 N. Charles Street. Applicants can now use a modified version of the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers’ Common Grant Application. The Common Grant Application and Proposal Cover Page is due May 19, 2008. Funding begins October 1, 2008.

Eligibility Criteria. To be eligible for consideration for the Baltimore Direct Services Grants Program, an applicant must be a not-for-profit community-based or community-serving organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. A "community-based organization" is located in the community or neighborhood it serves with local residents playing an active part in the governance and operation of the organization. A "community-serving organization" may or may not be located in the community it serves. However, children and families from disadvantaged communities must have access to, and benefit from, the services and programs being offered, and must be the primary beneficiaries of the programs or services to be supported by the grant.
