New Study Shows Link Between Reading Proficiency in Third Grade and Finishing High School
Students who don't read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers, according to a new study commissioned by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The report, Double Jeopardy: How Poverty & Third-Grade Reading Skills Influence High School Graduation, confirms the link between third grade scores and high school graduation and breaks down the likelihood of graduation by different reading skill levels and poverty experiences.

Casebook Places Data at the Fingertips of Decision Makers

Tax Credits Help Working Families Get Ahead
Tax day may be right behind us, but it's not too early to start planning for next year. A new website co-funded by the Casey Foundation provides easy access to research and resources on tax credits for working families, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, and the Property Tax Circuit Breaker. The site also provides extensive information and tools on how community-based organizations and elected officials can raise awareness of these important tax credits to help working families get ahead.
