Despite the large numbers of children being raised by relatives, the knowledge that these children do well, and the cost savings to taxpayers, kinship families continue to face significant challenges. This brief provides background information about kinship care, examples of innovative programs and policies organized around selected Making Connections initiative core results, and challenges to and opportunities for strengthening kinship families.
