Register Now: Using the Juvenile Probation Practice Survey to Engage and Support Staff
Juvenile probation leaders have likely heard guidance that they should engage and support staff as key actors in probation transformation. But what does “engage and support staff” mean in this context? What difference would it make?
Intentionally Engaging Staff to Transform Juvenile Probation — an upcoming webinar hosted by the Annie E. Casey Foundation — will feature Maryland Department of Juvenile Services staff. They will discuss their experiences engaging colleagues on the community services team in processes, policies and decision making affecting probation and aftercare. They will share their journey, stumbles and accomplishments from three points of view: frontline staff, regional leadership and senior leadership.
This session is for any jurisdiction interested in beginning or improving their staff engagement efforts, particularly in probation departments. It explores one of the core elements of an effective youth justice system and offers an entry point to Ten Ways to Transform Youth Justice, a practical roadmap for local systems.
Participants will learn how to:
- level set and identify priorities for organizational culture change using the free Juvenile Probation Practice Survey to gather qualitative information from their own probation officers, supervisors and leadership;
- include staff who are responsible for active caseloads in planning for new or revised policies;
- prioritize communication between staff and management and offer mechanisms to support it, such as team meetings; and
- encourage staff to share ideas, identify issues and hold leaders accountable for solutions.
