Practice and policy experts work with public systems to improve outcomes for children involved with child welfare systems.
Casey Family Services, a Foundation-sponsored private agency, provided child welfare services in New England and Baltimore. During its 36-year history, the agency developed the Lifelong Families practice model to connect children in foster care to enduring families. The Foundation continues to make available its research, videos, publications and other information related to foster care.
The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading in New Britain, Connecticut, is coordinating services and supports for children from birth to age 8 in an effort to boost the district’s third-grade reading scores, which are the lowest in the state.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation will allocate an additional $25 million for social investments – a set of strategies that would use endowment dollars to generate financial returns as well as social returns that advance the Foundation’s mission to improve the lives of vulnerable children and families.
In order to shift to a grantmaking strategy that will help hundreds of foster care and other nonprofit human services agencies adopt innovative, proven approaches to improve child welfare practices, the Annie E. Casey Foundation will discontinue providing direct services through Casey Family Services.
